Honorable Mention: Family-to-Family by Pam Koner
The CauseLab was also an opportunity to highlight ideas that are already being implemented in the real world. For the past eight years, Family-to-Family has operated on the simple premise of connecting families with more to those with less. Pam Koner and her all-volunteer team have launched a number of successful online family-to-family programs that have built greater empathy and understanding. Here are but just a few of their programs:

Pam Koner and her all-volunteer team have launched a number of successful online family-to-family programs that have built greater empathy and understanding. Here are but just a few of their programs:
Family Sponsorships – The program that started it all, families make a yearlong commitment of $31.21 per month to provide 7 dinner-type meals (including fruits & vegetables).
Birthdays in a Box – Families can help provide a mother with the supplies to throw her child a birthday party – something that isn’t always possible when times are tough.
Victory Garden Project – For those seeking to help in a more sustaining way, this program outfits a family in need with the tools and supplies to plant a garden of their own (including chickens) with the help of a local master gardener.
Building on their success, the Family-to-Family website is undergoing a major update that will be completed by the fall and will make it possible to scale their programs significantly. Keep on the lookout for them — you might see their work in helping families in the Gulf Coast affected by the oil spill.

Tasting Good Works!
Food is everywhere...in our grocery stores, the media and most importantly our communities.
Taste Williamsburg Greenpoint is the latest "Taste" initiative to combine great foods, drink and a cause.
With our support last year - the Northside Town Hall developed a fundraising concept that could "bring community to the table" in the trendy neighborhood of Williamsburg Brooklyn. We supported their desire to have a capital campaign initiative that could be an annual event beyond the usual "dinner". We focused on how to bring as many varied partners to the table and tap into the ever growing food movement in their community. Our services were the building blocks - from the ideation to an event business "plan", which began the implementation of the crucial pieces to pull the project off. With the leadership of a volunteer team of dedicated organizers, and community businesses, they have come up with an event that should deliver great success!
Successful fundraising whether a community project or a national non-profit campaign have key items in common - regardless of the size and stage of the event. FUN and imaginative events require collaboration - what is now referred to as "crowd sourcing" but what many have always known to be community organizing 101. Allow your initiative to take on a life of its own while maintaining the objective - this way the creativity flows, and finally as soon as it is over pull up your sleeves and get ready for the next one - it will be here sooner than you think.
So save the date May 16th 12 - 4 PM Rain or Shine and come out....and Taste Williamsburg Greenpoint while supporting the collaboration of community, business and the cause!

Barefoot in Brooklyn for Toms Shoes!
Good Works Work was out in full force getting folks to take off their shoes for Toms! We joined a quarter of a million people who took off their shoes for a day to draw attention to what it was like for a child to live without shoes and the One for One campaign. Check out our pixs we uploaded to the Toms wall throughout the day and a little video from Jen...Thank you all for participating and supporting this great cause and company!
So when we are not writing your grant application, overseeing program development or looking for great causes for brands to partner with - we are promoting the Good Works that Work!
Here is to kids getting shoes!
